Us humans are always planning,

Ask my mom, I got a planner every year for Christmas because I was so obsessed.

P.S if you want good planners check out https://thehappyplanner.com/

I wrote down my goals and to-do lists for the month and the year. I mean as a 10 year old I didn’t have much to plan other than who’s birthday parties were when but…

having a planner taught me a good skill, planning!

The funny thing is even if you don’t have a planner, you are still making plans, just somewhere else. Whether that be in your head or through screaming at your secretary. 😳

So what exactly is my point?

Planning is good and that’s not the problem, but what WE PLAN is the problem.

Most of us whether it be for a business or even ourselves, we are always asking…

What do I see myself doing when I am (insert age)?

What will my (insert serious life event) look like?

What is the future goal for the company?

Yes, while those things are important and we do them a lot. It is not ideal!

Why is it wrong?

We all may think that CEO’s and really big people all know what they want to do in the next 10 years.

What I like to say is that maybe..maybe not?

The thing is you can know what you want to do in the next couple years but you can’t plan it. You can know that you want to get promoted to senior manager or you can know that you want to travel the world at age 20.

But what happens when you get fired or by the time you are 20 you don’t have enough money to travel the world?

The fact is…

Life happens, and things will come up. I think that’s the best part of like that everything is so unexpected.

A person once said that “the best moments are the ones you don’t even know are gonna happen”

I have learned so much from just experiencing and reflecting. Trust me the things you do just cuz and just because you have a gut feeling are the most life changing moments.

Why should you focus on your next big step?

Your next big step.

Now let me be clear, your next big step doesn’t have a certain time frame like 2 weeks or 2 years. But it’s a plan.

One of my all time favourite quotes is “you can’t have a vision without an execution.”

This is so true!

Focusing on your next big step allows you to seriously FOCUS on your next big step, meaning planning everything out, from timelines to logistics.

When you do this, nothing of the future will distract you and you will be driven to work.

Take it from me, a young person, when you don’t have too many priorities and know what you have to do. You DO IT.

So if you want to stop thinking and start doing. Start focusing on your next big step.

Even though I am writing from home because of COVID. It’s time for me to hop out and experience more (virtually)

Hugs (from a distance),

Alisha
